Great Deal Sunbeam 5891 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker
I have owned this machine for over a year. I only use the manual for machine information. I had some failures using all-purpose flour with no more failures with bread flour. I do not weigh or sift the flour or have to check the dough consistancy. I just spoon the flour into a measuring cup and level. Sometimes I measure the flour and add the salt and store in the refrigerator in ziplock bags ahead of time. Somewhere on the web I read that you need to keep the yeast and sugar separated before starting the bread cycle. I use a recipe that calls for milk and honey. There were no more failures after using bread flour. The recipe is on the web. I sit the breadmaker on two heavy pot holders to prevent it from moving on the counter. This machine works for me!!! I also use bread machine yeast.

This breadmaker is a big improvement over my old Oster, which died an honourable death after several hundred loaves. The Sunbeam is quiet, has a very good range of options though quite inexpensive, a large view port to check the loaf, and a simple control panel. The bread pan comes out with a simple twist and lift. After eight loaves, it is just the machine I hoped. The dough mixes quickly, is kept at the perfect temperature to rise (a big plus since I keep a rather cold apartment in winter), and bakes to a beautiful golden brown on the medium color setting. Hard to believe it goes for less than .00.
One note: watch the recipes included in the manual. The whole wheat recipe, at least, calls for considerably less water than actually needed.
